Suspect in custody after Fort Collins shooting leaves one wounded
The Fort Collins Police Department arrested a man in connection to a Thursday shooting that left one person wounded.
Abdirahman Ahmed, 22, was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and three counts of felony menacing.
The shooting happened at 11:15 p.m. at East Oak Street and South College Avenue, in Fort Collins’ Old Town.
“This was an incredibly dangerous crime committed with complete disregard for the lives of others,” Fort Collins Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said. “I’m grateful to the officers who responded rapidly, secured the scene and safely took the suspect into custody.”
Officers said there was a disturbance between a group of people when Ahmed pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots. He then fled the area in a vehicle.
Officers located the victim, a man, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital.
Police located the suspect vehicle nearby and made a high-risk traffic stop. A handgun was also recovered during the investigation.
