Arvada cops and firefighters running toy drive for children in hospitals

Got any new stuffed animals? Rocky Mountain Children’s Health Foundation (RMCHF) has a place for them.

Each year RMCHF — a nonprofit that provides financial resources to pediatric patients and families — gives hospitals stuffed animals for children to help with emotional comfort, long hospital stays or difficult treatments.

While the foundation usually has a significant doner of the stuffed toys, it does not this year, so the Arvada Fire Department and Arvada Police Department are scrounging together a friendly competition to raise stuffed animals.

Both departments are holding a toy drive from March 15-31 and are asking people to bring new stuffed toys for children receiving care in local hospitals, according to a press release from the foundation.

An event will be held on from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. March 25 at the RMCHF headquarters at 5394 Marshall St. in Arvada.

Fire trucks and police vans will be at the location to help collect toys.

Otherwise, people can drop off toys at the Arvada Fire Station at 7903 Allison Way and the Arvada Police Department 8101 Ralston Road throughout the rest of March.

Donations can also be dropped off at the RMCHF headquarters at any time, with options to choose with team to donate for.

“Sometimes, when children are battling serious illness, what they need most is something soft to hold onto,” said Cathy Sandoval, executive director of RMCHF. “A simple stuffed toy can bring comfort, security, and a sense of normalcy during a very challenging time.”
