Manitou Incline closed due to medical emergency
The Manitou Incline was closed on Saturday morning due to a medical emergency.
According to the City of Manitou Springs, the Manitou Springs Fire Department and partner agencies responded to a medical emergency on the trail for an individual experiencing breathing problems. The closure is estimated to last eight hours.
In an update posted by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office around 12 p.m. on Saturday, it was announced that the Manitou Springs Incline was reopened. Sadly, the individual experiencing breathing problems was pronounced deceased.
The EPCSO thanked the citizens who called in the incident, assisted the individual until help arrived, and the first responders who responded to the scene.
According to Visit Manitou Springs, the Incline is one of Colorado’s most iconic and challenging hikes. It climbs 2,000 feet in elevation under one mile with 2,744 steps.
