Rideshare passenger dies after two-car crash in Aurora

A rideshare passenger died after a crash in Aurora on Monday.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m. at the intersection of 6th Avenue and Laredo Street, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department. A Toyota Rav4 ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a sedan that was being used for a rideshare app.

The collision caused the sedan’s rear passenger-side door to be ripped off and the passenger was thrown from the vehicle. The driver was also injured in the crash.

Both were taken to the hospital, where the rideshare passenger, an adult man, died, according to APD.

Police said the Rav4 driver, who was not injured, is cooperating with investigators. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have played a role in the crash.

The Arapahoe County Coroner will identify the victim, pending notification of family and an autopsy.
