4-year-old dead after getting swept away in creek during Colorado camping trip

A four-year-old boy tragically died in Boulder County after getting swept away in the flow of South St. Vrain Creek while his family was camping nearby.

According to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, a report about the child getting swept away in the creek west of the Town of Lyons was received just before 5:30 p.m. on the night of June 2. With limited cell service in the area, the child’s family had to resort to flagging down a passing motorist to drive them to an area where they could make the call for help. This resulted in a delay in contacting emergency services.

Upon receiving notification about the tragedy that was unfolding, rescue crews sprang into action, including a group of first responders and swift water rescue teams. Drone technology was also utilized.

At about 7:07 p.m., the young boy was found about 1.5 miles downstream from where it’s believed he entered the water. He was in critical condition when pulled from the water and later pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

Sincere condolences go out to the boy’s family as they’re dealing with this tragic loss.
