Two Thornton police vehicles damaged after being hit by suspected DUI driver

A suspected drunken driver crashed into two Thornton police vehicles while driving on the wrong side of the road on Thursday night.
An SUV was traveling west in the eastbound lanes on Thornton Parkway near Civic Center Drive and collided with two patrol units at 9:55 p.m., said Matt Barnes, a public information officer for the Thornton Police Department.
At the time of the crash, the officers were turning from Civic Center Drive onto eastbound Thornton Parkway.
Two officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Barnes said.
The suspect also was transported to a hospital but he later was released into police custody.
Barnes said alcohol was “definitely a factor” in the crash.
Additional information about the suspect has not been released.
