Denver Nuggets trade Dario Saric to Sacramento

The Nuggets addressed two issues with one trade Tuesday morning.
Denver moved off of Dario Saric, who was rarely used in his first and only season with the Nuggets, and tacked the team’s need for a backup center by acquiring Jonas Valanciunas from Sacramento.

The 33-year-old Valanciunas, who stands 6-foot-11 and weights 265 pounds, played in 32 games for the Kings after starting last season with the Wizards. He averaged 8.7 points, 7 rebounds and 1.8 assists for Sacramento.
After being drafted with the fifth pick of the 2011 draft, Valanciunas started his NBA career with Toronto before spending time in Memphis, New Orleans, Washington and Sacramento.

Saric joined the Nuggets on the taxpayer mid-level exception prior to last season but played in just 16 games last season. He averaged a career-low 3.5 points and 3.1 rebounds. He did not play a second of Denver’s playoff run.
The 31-year-old opted into his player option worth $5.4 million earlier this offseason. Saric’s contract expires following next season.
Valanciunas, meanwhile, is owed $10.4 million next season and $10 million in the 2026-27 season before his current contract ends.
