Denver Broncos fans who are currently unsure of who their starting quarterback will be when their side takes to the field against the Seattle Seahawks in NFL Gameweek One may find that confusion a little lessened after comments made by head coach Sean Payton.

Having seen Russell Wilson leave for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Payton has to select from rookie Bo Nix, Zack Wilson, and Jarrett Stidham, and it’s not at all clear who might get the nod, though, of the trio, one has been the recipient of some rather glowing praise from the man who matters.

Last season, the Denver Broncos lost four of their final six regular season games, resulting in the Colorado-based franchise failing to make it to the postseason for the eighth campaign in a row. Fans who feel that a change in fortunes is on the horizon may wish to back their team with a bet. With that in mind, this bet365 promo may well come in very handy, indeed, making that wager a little more risk-free.

Bo Nix was selected 12th overall in the draft, and Payton made his feelings pretty clear about how he feels the 24-year-old is shaping up, stating,

“We’ll see the tape and evaluate it, but I thought overall (he did) pretty well,”

“There’s clips, plays that you’ll correct it and there’s others where you’re going to say, ‘Hey.’ … He ran with the ones and I like his progress.”

“I think it’s a trait that when we watched [his tape], you see [a] pretty good pocket sense. He doesn’t take a lot of sacks. I think he knows when the play is over, [it’s] time to go. Then I think he can make plays when he’s going. I used to say this all the time, ‘The sack numbers are a reflection more on the quarterback than the offensive line.’ [Former Saints QB Drew] Brees was one of those guys. He was a tough sack. The ball came out [quickly], and I think [QB] Bo [Nix] has traits like that.” Payton added.

Singling out a quarterback’s ability to avoid being sacked is read by many as a cheap shot at former player Russell Wilson, who was sacked 100 times over the course of thirty games as a Bronco.

On where Zach Wilson fits into his plans, with Jarrett Stidham having played with starters prior to Bo Nix, Payton responded,

“Look, we’ve got a plan,”

“Bo ran with the 1s [Monday], Zach with the 2s; today, it was [Stidham] with the 1s. No news to announce there. I know you’re looking for it, but …” Payton added.

It’s clearly a positive thing when you have three potential starters, and Stidham, for one, is happy for the competition, stating,

“It’s a healthy thing,”

“It’s one of those things. Every year, their job upstairs is to bring in people they think can help the football team. And guys that are on the team, their job is to keep their job.” He added.

On the whole, Payton will have been relatively happy with his first season in charge of the Broncos. His tally of eight regular season wins was the highest for the franchise since 2016, and there is plenty to build on. It will be interesting to see how they fare in their season opener at Lumen Field, up against a pretty consistent Seattle Seahawks side with Mike Macdonald at the helm, with Pete Carroll after he left the head coach role to become an advisor and vice president of football operations.
