Rockslide covers tracks of iconic Colorado railway, closing normal route
John M. Chase
According to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad, “significant weather events” over the last few days brought down a large amount of rock and debris onto railway tracks that the service operates on just north of Needleton.
As a result, their service to Silverton has been interrupted, with Silverton-bound trains rerouted to Cascade Canyon while crews clear the slide and restore the tracks.
The company is working to get the full service to Silverton restored as soon as possible.
