An 18-year-old man was arrested in the August shooting death of an 11-year-old boy, the Aurora Police Department announced Wednesday.
The shooting happened on Aug. 19 near Interstate 225 and East Colfax Avenue.
Officers and Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a report of an accidental shooting at 16200 E. 17th Place about 1:30 a.m., police said.
The 11-year-old boy was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The 18-year-old man, who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, was arrested on Monday after an investigation.
He is facing charges of manslaughter, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, tampering with evidence and possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.
Neither the victim nor suspect’s names have been released.
