Water World COVID-19 testing site to stay open through end of year

Water World

The COVID-19 testing site at Water World will remain open through Dec. 31 and will extend evening hours, Adams County officials announced Friday.

The site, at 8801 N. Pecos St. in Federal Heights, provides free drive-up testing without requiring a state ID, Social Security number or insurance.

“With schools, colleges and many businesses open, and more movement in the community, we encourage our residents and their families to get a free COVID test to help keep our community as healthy and safe as possible,” Adams County Commissioner Emma Pinter said.

This news comes days after the free drive-up testing site at Denver’s Pepsi Center closed Wednesday, citing a need for smaller, community-based testing.

Water World is one of few mass testing centers in the Denver metro area, in addition to the Aurora Sports Park testing site.

Beginning Sunday, the Water World testing site will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a testing capacity of six lanes and 1,500 tests per day. Previously, the site closed at 4 p.m. daily.

“Our hope is the community will take advantage of the expanded evening hours and get tested during this critical time in the fight to slow the spread of this virus,” Pinter said.

The COVID-19 tests are administered by MAKO Medical and results are available in two to four days.

The only open entrance to the site is at North Tejon Street and West 90th Avenue. The site’s Pecos Street entrance is currently restricted.

Registration is not required but is encouraged for efficiency of service. People can register to get tested at the Water World testing site at MAKO Medical’s website.
