Four additional lawsuits filed against United Airlines over engine explosion in February

A Chicago-based law firm has filed four more lawsuits on behalf of passengers on-board a United Airlines flight whose engine exploded over Broomfield earlier this year.

Plane's giant boom, falling debris shock Colorado residents: 'What the heck was that?'

Clifford Law Offices filed the lawsuits on behalf of the passengers from four different states — none from Colorado — who suffered “emotional trauma and distress” due to the accident, according to a release from the firm.

United Flight 328 departed Denver International Airport in the early afternoon of Feb. 20 with a final destination of Honolulu. Within minutes of takeoff, the Boeing 777-200’s right engine failed and became engulfed in flames over Broomfield.

The pilot quickly turned the plane back to DIA and safely landed the aircraft following a Mayday call at 1:30 with over 200 passengers uninjured.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the explosion.

The civil lawsuits were filed in Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois and seek monetary compensation for personal, pecuniary and emotional damages as a result of the flight.

“Although the plane landed safely, it is imperative that the crew be as transparent as possible when stressful things are happening in flight,” said Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner at the law firm.

“Apparently there was no information or assurances coming from the crew during the tense 24 minutes in flight despite flight attendants reportedly being in plain sight. All the passengers could do was expect the worst was about to happen.”

Earlier in the month, there were two separate lawsuits filed by a Honolulu man and an Iowa resident. Both seek a judgement over $50,000 limit along with other costs and damages, the AP reported.
