Red, green, white and other colors will brighten the sky and bring smiles to many faces in Douglas County in a two-show, one night holiday fireworks event.

Two high-in-the-sky fireworks shows will shoot into the air at 7 p.m. on Dec. 19 near Rocky Heights Middle School in Highlands Ranch and Rueter-Hess Reservoir in Parker.

“After the difficulties our communities have recently been through, we wanted to create a special opportunity during the holiday season for everyone to celebrate their blessings and the resilience of our citizens and local businesses,” said Douglas County Commissioner Lora Thomas.

The 30-minute display was designed to allow Douglas County residents to see the explosions from the comfort of their home or vehicle.

Officials say there will be no organized gatherings or events associated and ask viewers to refrain from large watch parties and observe the display remotely, according to the release.

Despite 2020 being challenging for many individuals within Douglas County and Colorado, officials say the display will be temporary break from reality.

“Fireworks at anytime of year remind us all that we remain brave, courageous and free,” said Douglas County Commissioner Abe Laydon. “As we bid farewell to this difficult year we look forward to lighting the skies in celebration of the positive, can-do spirit of our community.”
