Downtown Denver’s History Colorado Center reopens amid new COVID-19 regulations

History Colorado Center

Colorado’s oldest museum, the History Colorado Center in Denver, reopened Tuesday as more lenient COVID-19 capacity regulations were announced by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The museum, which has been closed since Nov. 20, will now open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is restricted to members only on Mondays through Dec. 31.

Previously, Denver’s Level Red COVID-19 restrictions required all indoor events, entertainment and venues to fully close.

An amendment to the public health order Monday now allows institutions including museums, aquariums and zoos to perform educational functions indoors with up to 25% capacity or 25 people per room, whichever is fewer.

State deems weddings, funerals as 'essential,' drops limits on houses of worship

The amendment also lifted capacity limits on houses of worship and religious events like weddings and funerals.

Now, guests can visit the over a dozen exhibits within the History Colorado Center. The museum also offers on-site child care and learning support for families during school closures and holiday breaks.

The 141-year-old History Colorado nonprofit has served 75,000 students and 500,000 Coloradans each year.

The museum maintains strict capacity limits and has been converted to no-to-low touch during COVID-19. Guests are required to purchase tickets in advance which are available online at historycolorado.org/welcome.
