Arapahoe Basin to reopen for final weekend of ski season

Arapahoe Basin will be open for one last weekend of the 2025-26 ski season, the ski area said Monday.

It’s the second time it’s extended its closing date after the May snowstorm last week.

The ski slopes will be closed Monday through Thursday this week, but will reopen Friday through Sunday to close out what has been a difficult season for Colorado ski areas due to the state’s poor snowpack.

The Basin officials said this is how it normally handles late-season operation, but the weekday closure this year came about a month earlier than usual.

“Being closed Monday-Thursday allows us to save the snow surface from being skied off and gives our staff a much-deserved break to finish out the season strong,” A-Basin said in a post Monday on its Facebook page.

Single-day lift tickets for the final weekend at A-Basin are priced at $39. Parking is free.

The late-season snow last week did little to salvage what has been a slow ski season in the Rockies. U.S. ski visits decreased by 9 million compared with last season, according to preliminary data released last week by the National Ski Areas Association.

Ski visits in the Rockies made up the bulk of the decline, with 6.4 million fewer visits year over year.

Water experts said that, while last week’s snowstorm may look like relief, it won’t salvage what has been a historically bad snowpack year.

This year’s snowpack ranks among the worst on record, which is also heightening worries about water supplies across the Colorado River Basin.

Water managers across the Front Range — Arvada, Aurora, Boulder, Denver, Golden and Thornton — have all declared drought restrictions to preserve water levels in the hopes of avoiding stricter measures later this summer, when demand naturally increases.

Denver Gazette reporters Bernadette Berdychowski and Nicole C. Brambila contributed to this report.
