Broncos LB Alex Singleton hosts Special Olympics tournament, talks OTAs
EDGEWATER — Alex Singleton re-signed with the Broncos in March and prioritized his first text message.
The recipient? Special Olympics Colorado.
“Right after I re-signed, the first text was to Tiffany and Megan with Special Olympics, to be able to do this again,” Singleton said Friday at Citizens’ Park for his second annual cornhole tournament benefiting a charity close to his heart.
The event raised about $12,000 a year ago. Organizers hoped to reach $15,000 with all proceeds going to Special Olympics Colorado. Singleton was among 140 competitors in the cornhole tournament.
“My older sister (Ashley) has Down syndrome, so she’s been a Special Olympics athlete her entire life. Any city that I’ve gone to (play football), I make sure to reach out to them almost before I sign a contract,” Singleton said. “So, I’ve had a partnership now with Special Olympics Colorado for five years. To be able to host this tournament two years in a row is really special. Just to give back and raise money to them. … That’s what this is all about today.”
Singleton, 32, is signed to play in Denver through the 2027 season. He is projected to return as a starting inside linebacker with Justin Strnad. The Broncos are the last team to begin organized team activities next week after reaching the AFC Championship Game last season.
“Everyone is so worried about us starting Phase 3 as the last team,” Singleton said. “I think we’re weeks, months — if not years — ahead of a lot of teams in the league.”
Singleton spoke on a variety of topics with reporters in a group interview. Below is a sampling of his comments.
On defensive continuity entering 2026: “We’ve had a year of winning where we got close. Now, instead of trying to fix something that isn’t broken with new pieces, we’ve just got to put together the band. We’re going to see what happens. It’s exciting.”
On team expectations: “Everyone is going to want to beat us. Everyone is going to want to knock us down. Now, it’s our job to remember that. Practice and prepare with that target on our back.”
On OLB Jonah Elliss moving to inside linebacker: “Let’s see what he can do. It’s just the summertime. It’s not September yet. So, we’ve got four months to see how that goes and let him have some fun.”
On the new training facility at Broncos Park: “The building is going to be sick. Just the outside, when you see it when we’re there every day right now, you get excited to go into it. … I know we’re going to be in it for training camp. You’ll get that first day of new school feeling, I think, times 100.”
