Denver Summit FC delays Centennial Stadium opening due to wet weather | Colorado Sunshine
Where good news shines
Denver Summit FC’s debut at Centennial Stadium is under a rain delay.
The NWSL franchise said Thursday the club’s opening in Centennial will be pushed back until July 18 due to construction delays from the Denver area’s recent wet weather. That means the July 3 match against the Kansas City Current and the July 12 match against the Houston Dash will be played at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.
“While the recent rain is certainly welcome and much-needed for Colorado right now, the timing is less than ideal for this specific phase of construction,” Denver Summit FC Controlling Owner Rob Cohen said. “We are currently trying to pour roads and sidewalks, and these weather-related delays have made it necessary to extend our timeline so we can complete the work properly and safely.”
Centennial Stadium instead will open July 18 for a match against the Portland Thorns, the team said.
