Denver weather: A gloomy and rainy Wednesday

We are in for an overcast, wet Wednesday in Denver and most of Colorado.

The National Weather Service said to expect a high of around 71 despite overcast skies for most of the day. Showers are likely with the possibility of thunderstorms, mainly after noon.

Forecasters put the chances of rain in Denver at 60%. The chances increase to 80% in the mountains. Expect just rain, however, as the temperature will stay too warm for snow even up there.

Today marks the first of a potential onslaught of precipitation. The weather service predicts scattered rain tomorrow, with increased thunderstorm chances on Friday and especially Saturday over the plains.

The National Weather Service is cautious about heavier rain in some local spots. This could lead to flash floods in some burn scars, the weather service said, so stay cautious.

Tonight, expect a low of around 53, and for the rain to continue off and on through midnight.
