Denver weather: Fire danger returns as temperatures reach 90s

Denver has a chance to set temperature records on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service said to expect a high of 90 in Denver today, potentially the hottest May 13th ever recorded in the city.

The current record is 90 degrees, set in 1915. Expect a hot, sunny day with a good chance to break that record.

On top of the heat, the weather service says to watch for strong gusty winds up to 50 mph. That much heat and wind is a recipe for fire danger, though the National Weather Service has not issued an official warning.

Some light, isolated showers are possible this afternoon. Focused mainly on the foothills, forecasters say it is unlikely that rainfall reaches the urban corridor.

The rest of the week is more of the same. Fire danger will continue to grow as the temperatures remain high. Rain becomes more likely as we get closer to the weekend.

Tonight, expect a low of around 58 degrees and for the wind to remain gusty and strong.
