DougCo offering homeowners $25,000 fire mitigation grants
Douglas County’s Wildfire Mitigation Cost-Share program is returning this year to help residents reduce wildfire risk. The program provides grants to homeowners, homeowners associations and communities seeking to reduce hazardous conditions and reduce wildfire fuels.
The county will provide a 50% financial match to homeowners, up to $25,000, for projects that focus on creating defensible space, reducing vegetation densities and disrupting the continuity of fuels like wild grass or shrubs.
The program will also provide up to $50,000 for community projects, and up to $7,000 for community chipping or slash pickup. County officials encourage neighboring residents to apply together.
The application period runs from April 13 through May 13. A second application period is anticipated in late 2026.
Applications require a detailed scope of work, two contractor estimates from the county’s list of approved contractors and a site map. Successful applicants will be notified in the fall.
Funds will be distributed following the completion of the project, certification of all work by Douglas County wildfire mitigation staff, and proof of 50% payment.
In 2025, the program reduced wildfire fuels on more than 146 properties.
