Evacuation orders lifted for Boulder, Larimer County fires

Evacuation warnings were issued Wednesday morning for an area in west Boulder and an area in Larimer County due to wildfires.

Both orders were later lifted before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, an evacuation order for the Goat Trail fire was issued for areas west of the 200 block of Hawthorne Avenue, near 4th Street in Boulder. Anyone in the area was asked to prepare to evacuate.

The fire started about 500 feet west of Hawthorne Avenue, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said. Boulder Fire initially reported the fire to be 2-3 acres in size. After mapping with a drone, the acreage was revised to just under 2 acres, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

The Goat Trail fire reached 100% containment at about 9:15 a.m. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said firefighters would remain on scene to “check on things.”

Evacuations were also ordered in Larimer County for an area south of Carter Lake for the Cougar Run fire. A call on the fire came in just after 6 a.m. Wednesday. Mandatory evacuations were ordered along County Road 31 around 6:50 a.m., while voluntary evacuations were ordered for areas west of the lake.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said the fire was estimated at about 10 acres as of 7:45 a.m., though it was later reduced to an estimate of 3.5 acres at about 8:23 a.m. The sheriff’s office said the fire is currently in a “mop up” phase. Loveland Fire, Berthoud Fire and the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control were assisting on scene.

The evacuation order was lifted just before 10:30 a.m.
