Denver’s best pizza showdown reaches Elite Eight, including a major upset
Local favorite Blue Pan Pizza eliminated as Denver’s top pizzerias enter the Elite Eight.
Denver’s pizza faithful delivered a dramatic Sweet 16 round in The Denver Gazette’s Pizza Bracket, filled with nail-biters, decisive wins, and major upsets.
After tallying reader votes from the second round of action, the results are now in.
The most shocking result came on the left side of the bracket, where Blue Pan — a favorite to win it all — was narrowly eliminated by CHAR Stone Fired Pizza by just four votes in a 208–204 thriller.
The following pizzerias have advanced to the Elite 8: CHAR Stone Fired Pizza, Brooklyn’s Finest, Cosmo’s Pizza, Beau Jo’s, Fat Sully’s, Pizzeria Leopold, Marco’s Coal Fired, and SliceWorks.

Brooklyn’s Finest emerged from a close contest of New York juggernauts, edging Big Bill’s NY Pizza 162–153.
Cosmo’s Pizza handled Walter’s303 190–129, while mountain-style mainstay Beau Jo’s topped Carl’s Pizza 190–148 to advance.
Some of the most unexpected shakeups came on the right side of the bracket. Pizzeria Leopold steamrolled White Pie 367–102 in one of the tournament’s biggest wins. Marco’s Coal Fired delivered a strong showing against Pizzeria Lui, winning 211–132, while SliceWorks outlasted Urban Field 211–132 in a matchup many expected to go the other way.
Fat Sully’s also proved its staying power, defeating Dough Counter 225–107.
With powerhouses eliminated and underdogs rising, this bracket is anyone’s to win.
The Elite 8 is now set: CHAR Stone Fired Pizza will take on Brooklyn’s Finest, Cosmo’s Pizza faces Beau Jo’s, Fat Sully’s meets Pizzeria Leopold, and Marco’s Coal Fired goes up against SliceWorks.
With the field narrowed to eight, the votes will become even more critical as we look to crown Denver’s best pizza.
