Pueblo man dead after head-on collision in Pueblo County

One man is dead after two vehicles collided head-on Friday night in Pueblo County.

Law enforcement officials responded to a report of an accident on Highway 50, just east of Pueblo, shortly before 11 p.m., according to a release from the Colorado State Patrol.

Upon their arrival, Troopers located two men, a 43-year-old man from La Junta who was driving a Ford F250, and a 72-year-old from Pueblo who was driving a GMC Envoy, according to the release.

The Pueblo man was pronounced dead on-scene.

Investigators have determined that the GMC Envoy was headed west on the highway when it crossed over the center lined, and collided with the Ford that was traveling eastbound.

Following first impact, the GMC rotated counter clockwise and came to a stop in the eastbound lane, while the Ford rolled over onto its side before stopping on the eastbound shoulder, according to the release.

Currently, investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

An initial investigation into the crash forced the road to be closed for approximately four hours, CSP said.

Information regarding the victim will be released following the notification of next of kin.
