Kelly Reinke, veteran investigative reporter, announces departure from 9News
Reinke's last day on air will be Friday, Nov. 22.
Veteran crime and investigative reporter Kelly Reinke has made the decision to leave 9News, and for now, the journalism industry, Reinke announced via social media on Monday.
Her last day on the air will be this Friday, Nov. 22.
“I’ve loved my time in news, but my heart is telling me it’s time for a change,” she said in a post on social media platform X. “Change is scary. But I’m taking a leap of faith with so much excitement.”
A graduate of the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Reinke’s career began in Knoxville, Tennessee, at WATE, where she covered major events such as the deadly Gatlinburg wildfires of 2016 and the opioid epidemic, according to her 9News bio.
She later moved to Indianapolis, reporting for FOX59 and CBS4. There, she conducted impactful investigations into systemic issues, including how Indiana tracks law enforcement officers convicted of crimes and discrepancies in nursing home performance data during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reinke joined 9News in March of 2021. In September of 2022, she married fellow 9News reporter and anchor Marc Sallinger, who she says she met at a journalism camp in high school.
Reinke said the “best part” of her time at 9News has been “telling stories in the same newsroom as Marc.”
On her bio page, Reinke listed some of her favorite milestones including flying at 750 mph and experiencing 9Gs in an F-16 Viper.
She said she also holds the distinction of being the first girl born on her father’s side of the family in more than 100 years. Additionally, she served as a “spirit leader” at USC, where she led stadium-wide chants and traveled with the school’s football team.
Reinke emphasized that the decision to step away was not an easy one, and took time to thank her mentors, but it was a move she described as the best for her and her family.
“As they say in TV, stay tuned,” she wrote, hinting at opportunities ahead.
