The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office issued a shelter-in-place as they searched for a wanted felon who escaped the Department of Corrections in 2021.

Deputies began looking for 56-year-old Sean Hanneman on Wednesday morning after attempting to arrest him at a residence in the 2500 block of East Easter Avenue, according to a social media post from the sheriff’s office.

A Department of Corrections warrant was issued for Hanneman in 2021 for parole violation and escape, the sheriff’s office said, but his whereabouts had been unknown until recently.

Deputies began searching the area between East Arapahoe Road and East Dry Creek Road and South. University Boulevard and South Colorado Boulevard, placing the region on a shelter-in-place order. Sandburg Elementary School was also placed on secure perimeter.

Hanneman was said to have violent tendencies and carries large knives.

After looking for three hours, the sheriff’s office called off the search, according to a subsequent social media post.

The shelter-in-place and school lockdown was officially cancelled as of around 12 p.m., a spokesperson with the sheriff’s office said.

Hanneman is around 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. He is also bald. Anyone that sees him is asked to call 911.

The suspect also escaped custody in 2018 while serving time for forgery out of Douglas County and two separate escape charges out of Arapahoe County.
