Nuggets’ Summer League roster features draft picks, Colorado ties
The Nuggets announced Thursday a 17-man roster that will compete at next week’s Las Vegas Summer League.
Denver assistant JJ Barea will coach a squad headlined by Denver’s two second-round picks from this year’s draft, Trevon Brazile and Bryce Hopkins.
There are also some local ties on the roster. Former Colorado star KJ Simpson is back for Summer League after closing last season on a two-way contract with the Nuggets, and TJ Bamba, who played at Lincoln High School before playing his college ball at Washington State, Villanova and Oregon. Bamba spent his first professional season with German club Rasta Vechta.
Other notable names include Mark Sears, who signed a two-way contract with Milwaukee to start last season after going undrafted, and Jahmi’us Ramsey, a second-round pick by the Kings in 2020 who has played in 39 NBA games between Sacramento and Toronto. Ramsey played in Italy last season.
The Nuggets’ Summer League schedule starts July 10 against the Rockets on ESPN2, continues July 11 against the Timberwolves on Prime, July 14 against the Thunder on ESPN and July 16 against the Trail Blazers on Prime. The top four teams advance to the playoffs, while the 26 other teams will have a fifth game added.
This year’s Summer League will feature a couple of experimental rule changes. The basketballs will be equipped with sensors that help determine who last touched the ball, and players will shoot one free throw worth one, two or three points, depending on the type of foul.
