HIGH CRIME: Colorado determined to be 3rd ‘most dangerous’ state in the country

US News and World Report recently released their annual ‘Best States’ ranking, which revealed results that Coloradans probably won’t be too happy about.

Not only did the publication dub the Centennial State an unimpressive 16th-best among America’s 50 in an overall score based on categories of economy, education, health care, infrastructure, natural environment, opportunity, crime and corrections, and fiscal stability, the publication also noted that Colorado is one of the most dangerous states in the country.

In a piece by the publication directly addressing the topic of safety, it was reported that Colorado is the 3rd-most dangerous place to live nationwide, behind only the most dangerous state – New Mexico, as well as Louisiana.

Colorado ended up ranking third due to a high number of both violent and property crimes that take place. US News and World Report states that the violent crime rate in Colorado during the period of analysis was 492 crimes per 100,000 residents and that the property crime rate was 3,148 crimes per 100,000 residents.

Compared to the ‘safest’ state, the difference is stark.

When it came to the ‘safest’ states in the country, New Hampshire took the top spot, with 126 violent crimes per 100,000 residents and 1,011 property crimes per 100,000 residents. New Hampshire ranked as the ‘2nd-best’ state in the country overall.

In other words, Colorado’s violent crime rate was nearly four times that of New Hampshire and the property crime rate was more than three times that of New Hampshire.

Do you think Colorado has gotten more dangerous in recent years? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments.
