With picturesque mountain towns, special events, and festive decorations waiting to be found in many places around Colorado, the Centennial State is the perfect place to enjoy the winter holiday season.
Here are six places to visit in Colorado that will have you feeling like you’ve been transported into a holiday wonderland:
1. The Broadmoor

This famous destination resort in Colorado Springs offers a great setting for a winter vacation. As the holiday season approaches, the resort transforms into a winter wonderland with millions of twinkling lights, captivating festive decorations, and its famous gingerbread display. The Broadmoor also offers many holiday-themed events and entertainment, including the classic holiday show and Breakfast with Santa.
2. Denver’s Union Station

Part of Union Station is converted into the whimsical Miracle pop-up cocktail bar during the holiday season. The bar includes “delightfully ostentatious holiday decor, delectable cocktails, and the nostalgia of childhood’s dancing sugar-plum visions,” promising to “convert even the grouchiest of grinches.”
3. The Stanley Hotel

Located in the mountain town of Estes Park, The Stanley Hotel offers a true winter wonderland setting for many holiday events, surrounded by a mountain view. The hotel hosts a three-course Christmas dinner, Crystal Ball, and New Year’s Eve dinner. Guests can also head to the Stanley’s Pavilion to see the Boulder Ballet perform excerpts from The Nutcracker.
4. Breckenridge

Visiting downtown Breckenridge in the winter feels like stepping into a real-life snow globe. The area has an excellent shopping and dining scene, and also serves as a hub for the town’s events and activities. Visitors can enjoy strolling down the streets in a town that looks and feels like a Hallmark-worthy winter wonderland.
5. Vail

During the holiday season, Vail transforms into a picturesque winter wonderland that could have been picked right out of a Christmas movie (part of Hallmark’s ‘Winter in Vail‘ was even filmed in the town). The trees and streets are adorned with decorations, and the village is filled with plenty of great restaurants, bars, and shops to explore. Visitors can also enjoy plenty of classic winter activities like skiing, sleigh rides, snowshoeing tours, ice skating, and much more.
6. Georgetown

In December, Georgetown is converted into a “bustling Christmas scene reminiscent of Christmas of long ago.” Visitors can experience a traditional holiday where Christmas hasn’t changed in 100 years, with roasted chestnuts, holiday shopping, and horse-drawn wagon rides through the historic town. The free Georgetown Christmas Market is held the first and second weekends of December, featuring an outdoor European marketplace with handcrafted gifts, food vendors, and much more.
