After more than a decade of operations, a Michelin-recommended restaurant is set to close in Denver.

According to a Monday announcement from Fruition Restaurant, the highly-praised establishment’s last day of service is set to be January 12. The message was penned by James Beard-award-winning chef Alex Seidel, who opened the restaurant in 2007.

“After 18 incredible years, I’ve made the bittersweet decision to close the doors of Fruition,” reads the statement. “What began as a dream in our tiny kitchen on 6th Avenue grew into something far beyond what I could have imagined.”

Fruition Restaurant was dubbed a ‘Michelin-recommended’ dining spot as recently as 2023. The spot has a 4.4-star rating on Yelp and 4.6 stars on Google Reviews.

A reason behind the closure was not included in the announcement. It is, however, worth noting that fans of Seidel’s creations can still enjoy two other establishments that he’s behind – Michelin-recommended Mercantile in Denver’s Union State and Chook, which has multiple locations and is described as a “delicious, responsible, nutritious, and affordable” dinner option.

Social media responded to the announcement of the closure with an outpour of praise and support, with many people stating that Fruition Restaurant was a favorite Denver dining spot. One Facebook commenter named Layton left the following comment: “Fruition was the only restaurant we have traveled to intentionally 1,000 miles to dine with multiple time!”

There’s no doubt Fruition will be missed in the Denver restaurant scene, but who knows – maybe Seidel is making room for his next big thing?
