Horse involved in a crash on I-70 recovers in Summit County
A horse involved in an accident on I-70 on Dec. 6 has recovered from her injuries at the Summit Valley Horse Center.
According to a Facebook post from the Summit Valley Horse Center (SVHC), Summit Fire and EMS and Summit County Animal Control (SCAC) were able to get the mare out of the crushed trailer after the accident. The horse was then transported to the SVHC where she was given food, heated water, and first aid.
SVHC and SCAC staff continued to care for the mare over the next 48 hours, assessing her injuries and replacing her bandages.
Her owner, who was uninjured, picked her up and took her home on Dec. 8.
“We are so glad to be able to provide a safe shelter for horses in emergency situations, and are so happy to work closely with Summit County Animal Control and Summit Fire & EMS,” the Facebook post from Summit Valley Horse Center reads. “It is because of their help that this mare was able to make it out to SVHC and begin her recovery.”
