Award-winning ‘Colorado Ale Brewery of the Year’ announces closure of all 3 locations before end of 2025

Tough times for Colorado’s breweries continue, with another well-known and highly-rated spot set to close its doors before the end of 2025.

“To anyone who has ever had a beer from Sanitas Brewing Company or just enjoyed time with loved ones on our patios, thank you,” reads the start of an announcement that goes on to say the company has made the “very tough decision” to end operations in upcoming weeks. At this time, the brewery hopes to keep doors open through December 20, 2025.

The closure will impact locations in Boulder, Englewood, and Lafayette, and while the public announcement related to the closure didn’t go too in-depth in regard to why the closure is taking place, it did allude to Sanitas Brewing Company facing the reality that it’s been a tough year for those in the craft brewing industry to sustain a business.

“One of Sanitas’ primary values is “Do The Right Thing x 4” – that is 4 for; our community, our customers, ourselves and our company,” reads the company’s announcement. “Please trust that closing is the right, albeit bittersweet, thing now.”

Sanitas Brewing Company has been in operation for more than a decade.

“Creating opportunities for communal experiences with friends and family, paired with a decent brew, is what Sanitas was founded on,” said Sanitas Brewing Company. “And since 2013, we truly lived that commitment, providing spaces for good times, good people and craft beers in three locations; Boulder, Englewood and Lafayette. Sanitas beer was consumed in homes all over the world, and we even took home a few medals. But our favorite moments were the ones we shared with all of you.”

Among awards won by the brewery was the ‘Colorado Ale Brewery of the Year‘ award, won in 2021 at the 10th Annual New York International Beer Competition. The brewery maintains a 4.8-star rating on Google Reviews.

It also must be noted that the closure announcement from Sanitas Brewing Company thanks the company’s employees, investors, partners, and patrons, as well as families of those involved in the effort:

“Your love and support is immeasurably appreciated. You stood by our sides while we chased dreams and you buckled up for the adventure of a lifetime. This ride has not been easy, but we had a lot of fun, and did something together that matters!”

Sanitas Brewing Company also made sure to invite their fans into a taproom “for a final cheers or two or three” in weeks leading up to their anticipated closing date.

As covered by Denver Gazette’s Dennis Huspeni in September 2025, up until that point in the year Colorado had seen more closings than openings among the state’s 490-plus craft breweries with a net growth rate of -3%.

In that article, Executive Director of the Colorado Brewers Guild Shawnee Adelson is quoted as saying: “Each of them closed for different reasons. Things are different than they were five years ago, but it’s not the end of craft beer,” also noting that rising costs related to operating a brewery are a key factor in the current industry climate.
