Two young owlet siblings reunited at rehab facility after big fall from nest
Two young owlet siblings that fell from their nest in a Walmart garden center were reunited at a rehabilitation center thanks to community rescue efforts.
According to the Lafayette Police Department, one “fluffy little owlet” was discovered after taking a fall from its nest at Walmart in recent days, with the nest too high up for the bird to return to. As a result, the owlet was taken to Broomfield-area rehabilitation center Birds of Prey by Animal Protection Officer Hettinger.
Upon the bird’s arrival at the facility, it was discovered that another owlet was there that had been found by someone in the same area the day prior – believed to be a sibling of the owlet delivered to the facility by law enforcement.
While neither bird was injured in the fall from the nest, the owlets were too young to be re-released into the wild. Birds of Prey will be caring for the owlets until they’re old enough for that release to take place.
“Thank you Animal Protection Officer Hettinger and ‘nice community member’ for rescuing these little springtime cuties,” reads a press release from the Lafayette Police Department.
Spring tends to be a time of the year when many of Colorado’s species start to produce offspring. If you happen to find a young animal (or any animal) that’s in trouble, contact authorities instead of attempting to deal with the situation yourself. Authorities will have the expertise that allows them to resolve the situation while taking both human and animal safety into consideration.
