‘Leaving Colorful Colorado’ sign destroyed in crash on I-70

A ‘Leaving Colorful Colorado’ sign was destroyed during a vehicle crash on Interstate 70 (I-70) near Mile Marker 231, which is near Fruita, on Saturday.

According to a Facebook post from the Lower Valley Fire District (LVFD), responders were dispatched to I-70 Mile Marker 231 for a motor vehicle crash. Crews found a vehicle off the roadway with significant damage. The driver was able to self-extricate before firefighters arrived on scene.

The driver said that a blown tire had caused the vehicle to lose control and leave the road. The patient was medically evaluated on the scene, but declined to be taken to the hospital. No serious injuries were reported.

“Unfortunately, the vehicle’s path also claimed a local landmark – the ‘Leaving Colorado’ sign,” reads the post from LVFD. “RIP Leaving Colorado sign. You served travelers well.”
