Firefighters put out two “close-call” grass fires on side of I-25

Two grass fires sparked on the side of Interstate 25 (I-25) near Castle Pines Parkway at 2:35 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

According to a Facebook post from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), deputies, the Douglas County firefighting helicopter and South Metro Fire Rescue responded to the fires. The cause of the fires is still being investigated.

“With the hot, dry conditions we’re experiencing, it doesn’t take much for a small fire to become a major incident,” reads the post from DCSO. “Fortunately, this fire did not require any evacuations…but the next one could.”
