Historic 65-foot tower with views of 6 states reopens after long wait in Colorado

It’s official – a massive tower located about 10 miles east of Limon on Colorado’s Eastern Plains is officially open for visitors once again as one of the state’s most historic and quirkiest roadside stops. It’s called the World’s Wonder View Tower and standing at about 65 feet tall, Ripley’s Believe It or Not once promised that six states could be seen from the top (Colorado, Kansas, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, and New Mexico).

This tower dates back to dreams of the 1870s, when a man named Charles Gregory camped in the area and was “captivated by the spot’s scenic and strategic location.” By the 1920s, Gregory returned to build a roadside attraction amid the automobile boom and by 1930, the tower that the spot would become known for was under construction.

In 1967, the property was purchased by Jerry Chubbuck and he had big plans on how the site could transform to be more interesting than ever. He added various oddities like a two-headed calf and the skeleton of a wooly mammoth. It became known as a spot where quirky and curious objects could be seen.

The World’s Wonder View Tower would later close in 2013 following the death of Chubbuck and it would remain mostly closed aside from special events until May of 2026 after extensive renovations and revamping allowed it to open once again.

Per reporting from The Gazette, about $3 million – much of which was from the state of Colorado’s historic preservation funds – went into reopening the attraction, which is visible from I-70 and looks something like a water tower from afar. In 2025 when The Gazette reported that the process to reopen the attraction was underway, writer Seth Boster noted that the goal was to invite the public back at some point in 2026. That timeline held true, and the World’s Wonder View Tower can again be visited once again, currently from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Undoubtedly one of the oddest roadside attractions found in Colorado, this one with worth checking out. Find more information on visiting here and if you want to read an in-depth report on the storied history of the spot, Seth Boster’s article can’t be skipped. A YouTube video from Hello I Am Clutch also provides a great look at what a visit is like.
