Roughly 50 people displaced after Aurora apartment fire

An apartment building in Aurora was evacuated due to a fire early Tuesday.

Firefighters, upon arrival, rescued residents from the building with ladders, according to a series of X posts by Aurora Fire-Rescue. The 24-unit apartment building, located in the 790 block of Dillon Way, first caught fire around 1:30 a.m., Aurora Fire-Rescue officials said. It was fully evacuated as firefighters battled the blaze, displacing about 50 residents.

Two residents were hospitalized with minor smoke inhalation and are expected to be OK. The Red Cross is assisting residents displaced by the fire.

Portions of the building’s roof collapsed due to the fire, which was under control by about 2:30 a.m. Some hot spots still remained about an hour later.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
