Study: Colorado in top 10 most energy-efficient states in U.S.

Colorado is the seventh most energy-efficient state in the country, according to a national study released Wednesday by the finance website WalletHub.

Colorado was beaten only by Utah, New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The study compared 48 states, excluding Hawaii and Alaska, on home energy efficiency and auto energy efficiency. Both categories were scored from zero to 100, with 100 representing optimal energy efficiency.

Home energy was measured by the ratio of total residential energy consumption to annual degree days.

Auto energy was measured with annual vehicle miles driven by gallons of gasoline consumed compared to annual vehicle miles driven per capita.

Colorado’s overall score was 72.88, compared to Utah’s 81.50 and the lowest score of 20.68 for South Carolina.

Colorado also ranked fourth in the country for home energy efficiency, 18th for vehicle-fuel efficiency and 12th for transportation efficiency.
