Man facing arson charges in connection to Lakewood apartment fire
One person is in custody after an early-morning fire displaced five people at an apartment building in Lakewood on Friday, West Metro Fire Rescue said.
Daniel McWhinney, 48, was arrested by Lakewood police officers and is being held at the Jefferson County Detention Facility on five charges, including first-degree arson and third-degree assault, police spokesman John Romero said.

Fire officials say after an initial investigation of the scene, they determined the blaze was intentional.
West Metro Fire reported that crews arrived at the apartment building at 14th Avenue and Harlan Street at 1:55 a.m. Friday.
Fire officials say one unit was completely lost to the blaze and another unit was damaged.
Officers assisted two residents from the unit where the fire started and there were no injuries reported.

Two of the people displaced by the flames are being assisted by the Red Cross in finding shelter.
McWhinney is scheduled to make an initial appearance in the 1st Judicial District Court on Saturday afternoon, according to online court records.
