Time to rewrite the record books.

Denver hit a new high temperature for July 12 on Friday, with the mercury reaching 102 degrees at the city’s official weather station at Denver International Airport.

The new high temperature sizzled past the old mark of 101 degrees for July 12, last set 53 years ago in 1971, according to National Weather Service records.

The weather service said it was the first time Denver had reached 102 degrees in more than three years, with the last time occurring on July 8, 2021.

A heat advisory was in effect Friday for the Denver metro area and northern Front Range, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Denver weather forecasters said to expect winds from the southwest on Friday ranging from 5 to 9 mph. Gusts could reach 21 mph.

“A heat advisory will be in place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., this evening for the urban corridor,” the NWS said. ” Weak isolated thunderstorms and showers are possible across portions of the high country and eastern plains this afternoon that could produce gusty winds, light rainfall, and isolated dry lightning.”

Looking ahead to Friday night, expect mostly clear skies and a low of 68 degrees.

Hot temperatures are here to stay through the weekend as highs remain in the 100s through Sunday. Temperatures will be slightly cooler heading into Monday with projected highs in the 90s.
