Denver police arrested a man in connection to the death of his wife on Monday, calling the incident a domestic violence-related homicide.
Police arrested 50-year-old Brian Mervin on suspicion of first-degree murder after an incident that occurred in the 4000 block of North Adams Street around 6 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the Denver Police Department.
Mervin allegedly flagged down someone to call 911, noting that he had found his wife on the ground struggling to breathe, police said.
Officers and paramedics responded to the scene and transported the wife to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
First responders observed “several injuries suffered by the decedent” that were indicative of assault, according to the release. Police did not detail the injuries.
“Based on information and evidence obtained, Mervin was arrested and is currently being held for investigation of one count of first-degree murder,” the department said.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will release the victim’s identity and cause of death following investigations.
