Denver Nuggets without coach Michael Malone, star Nikola Jokic in New Orleans

Neither Michael Malone nor Nikola Jokic were with the Nuggets for Friday’s NBA Cup game in New Orleans.

Malone hung back in Denver to attend the state volleyball tournament. Malone’s daughter Bridget is a senior outside hitter on the Mountain Vista team. She’s committed to continue her volleyball career at the University of North Carolina. The championship matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, so Malone should be able to rejoin the team ahead of Sunday’s game in Memphis.

Jokic’s timetable to return isn’t clear. He missed Friday’s game due to personal reasons the team is keeping private. Dario Saric started in Jokic’s place alongside Jamal Murray, Christian Braun, Michael Porter Jr. and Peyton Watson.
