Nine-vehicle crash closes I-70 near Georgetown, leaving several people injured

Several people are in the hospital following a nine-vehicle crash that shut down eastbound Interstate 70 near Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m. along a downslope of I-70, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release.

CSP officials said the crash involved a semi-truck hauling cars through. It is unclear whether the semi caused the crash.

Out of the nine cars involved in the crash, none of them came from the semi, CSP officials said.

“Patrol received a report of a multi-vehicle crash on the hill descending into Georgetown,” CSP’s news release said.

Authorities said “several” people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Eastbound I-70 were closed at Silverthorne, while westbound lanes were unaffected.

CSP reported eastbound lanes opened about 3 p.m.
