The German American Chamber of Commerce – Colorado Chapter (GACC-CO) announced the expansion of the authentic German-style holiday market, bringing the state’s second location to Bancroft Park for two weeks.
“The GACC-CO wanted to take the Denver Christkindlmarket’s success of strengthening the city’s culture and economic opportunities to Colorado Springs by producing a Christkindlmarket that reflects its extraordinary community and adds to the magic of the holiday season,” Samantha Seems, GACC-CO Executive Director said.
The Old Colorado City Christkindlmarket will represent the culture, businesses and people of Colorado Springs, according to Sara Vaas, President of the OCC Partnership.
According to the GACC-CO, Old Colorado City is the ideal location for the cozy market, with over 20% of residents in Colorado Springs claiming German ancestry, the city’s a natural fit.
“Experiencing other cultures or even getting a better understanding of your own heritage opens people’s perspectives and fosters meaningful connections. The OCC Christkindlmarket is a great opportunity for people of all backgrounds to meet and connect with their neighbors to celebrate the season,” Barbara Wittmann, GACC-CO President said.
Old Colorado City’s Christkindlmarket will promote local businesses, create new seasonal jobs for residents, and could attract holiday shoppers from across the state and nation, according to the GACC-CO.
According to the event’s website, exact dates for the Christkindlmarket will be confirmed in the spring. Applications for vendors will also be considered in the spring.
