Long-term parking for United, fire trucks on council agenda

Like the rest of Denver, United Airlines loves a good long-term parking spot. On Monday, the Denver City Council will consider a resolution for a 30-year ground lease for aircraft parking at Denver International Airport.
This lease gets United 909,439 square feet of ground space at DIA to construct, operate and maintain, at its sole cost, an aircraft parking area for up to five wide-body or 20 narrow-body aircraft. According to city documents, rental payments will be charged at the current 2025 ground rent of $1.03 per square foot for an annual rate of $936,722.69.
Earlier this year, United announced it would begin running a seasonal daily nonstop flight to Rome aboard the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
United is the primary carrier operating from Denver International Airport and employs more than 70 passenger gates for its customers.
Two new Pierce Velocity Pumpers may soon be on their way to the Denver Fire Department to replace older high-mileage vehicles. Council members will consider a resolution to approve a $4.1 million purchase order with Front Range Fire Apparatus for the pumpers and a mid-mount aerial platform.
According to the manufacturer’s website, the Pierce Velocity Pumper can hold between 600 and 1,500 gallons of water, depending on the configuration.
No proclamations will be issued, and no public hearings are scheduled.
Of significant interest, Council Bill 25-0167 returns for final consideration. The bill approves the purchase of two electric vehicles for the Denver Police Department using money from the city’s Climate Protection Fund. The bill was postponed during the Feb. 24 City Council meeting to explore alternate funding sources.
The Denver City Council will hold its regular Monday meeting at 3:30 p.m., with the general public comment session beginning at 5 p.m.
