Giant ‘I LOVE TACOS’ sign falls on Colorado woman, breaking her neck

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Three women were hurt when a heavy sign fell down at a popular taco festival in Westminster last week — and they say what happened after was just as frustrating as the accident itself.
Celina Toney took the brunt of it. She fractured four vertebrae and needed eleven staples to close a four-inch gash in her head after a giant “I LOVE TACOS” sign fell on her at the Top Taco Festival Thursday, she told The Denver Gazette’s news partners 9NEWS.
Shelly Beasley, Toney’s friend, said after the sign fell a chaotic scene unfolded as event organizers were unable to get an ambulance into the festival and wanted Toney to ride in a golf cart, despite her neck pain. Eventually an ambulance arrived on scene and took her to a hospital.
“Our hearts are with Celina and her family during this difficult time. Her well-being is our top priority, and we are committed to doing everything we can to support her recovery,” DiningOut Events told 9NEWS in a statement, blaming an “unexpected and severe wind event” for the sign’s collapse and offering help with “any injury claim process.”
