Thousands take over Colorado Convention Center for Fan Expo

The Colorado Convention Center does not normally allow weapons of any kind, but security personnel seemingly gave exception to the lightsabers and swords carried by attendees of the Fan Expo.

The expo, which will take over the center for the duration of the weekend, played host to thousands of people in attendance on Friday, some of whom were dressed for the occasion.

While many Coloradans were celebrating July 4th by wearing red, white and blue, many of the expo’s attendees donned their own style of outfits, with costumes ranging from anime and television characters to super heroes and villains to even Kermit the Frog.

Adrienne Kelley was dressed as a character from Resident Evil, a horror-based video game series. Her favorite part of the expo on Friday was the section of the event dedicated to the game that inspired her outfit.

“We took some pictures with the zombies,” Kelley said. “The costumes have been really good this year. I’ve liked most of what we’ve done today.”

The expo was divided into different sections, littered throughout the convention center. In some areas, different celebrity guests gave talks or signed autographs. In others, attendees could play video games with one another or talk about their cosplaying.

Moreover, the center’s Exhibit Hall A played host to at least 100 vendors, selling all sorts of items including artwork, comics, clothing, collectibles and a variety of other merchandise.

“It’s been great,” said Ian McGregor, dressed as an anime character. “Some of the stuff that people are selling is crazy. The amount of talent that they have is impressive, it’s really interesting.”

The expo runs through Sunday and has a number of top celebrities scheduled to make an appearance, including John Cena, William Shatner and Mike Tyson, according to the event’s website.
