WATCH: Moose spotted in north Colorado Springs
A moose was spotted on Colorado Springs’ north side near Interstate 25, according to a post from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
On Thursday, the department posted about the sighting in the area of I-25 and Interquest Parkway. According to parks and wildlife, officers observed a female Shiras Moose, which is the smallest subspecies — and only species — in Colorado.
The “cow” was estimated to weigh about 700 pounds, the department said.
We responded to a moose near Interquest/I-25. Wildlife officers observed a female (cow) Shiras Moose, smallest subspecies/only species in Colo. Estimated at 700lbs., we decided the safest decision for the moose/community was to depart, allowing the moose to calm/depart on its own pic.twitter.com/0fWGaCBis8

Parks and wildlife determined the “safest decision” for the animal and the community was to leave, allowing the moose to depart on its own.
Following the sighting, the department reminded residents of the dangers of moose and advised keeping away from the creature.
“Moose can be extremely dangerous to people and pets when agitated. In general, we encourage everyone to avoid approaching moose,” the post read.
According to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website, Colorado is home to more than 3,000 moose and boasts one of the fastest-growing populations in the lower 48 states.
