Authorities recovered the bodies of a paddleboarder and a dog at Eleven Mile State Park in Park County late Friday evening after they were reported missing earlier in the day, according to park officials.

Three people and a dog were reportedly paddleboarding in the Eleven Mile Reservoir around 1 p.m. when a large wind storm rolled through the park, “blowing the group into the water,” according to a Saturday news release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

One person wearing a life jack was able to swim to shore, and another was rescued by park rangers after tethering themselves to the paddleboard while wearing a life jacket. 

A man, who was not wearing a life jacket, and a dog were found by CPW’s Marine Evidence Recovery Team 11 hours later. 

“CPW strongly encourages recreationists to wear a life jacket while boating, kayaking, paddleboarding and swimming in Colorado. Weather conditions can change quickly at the park with sudden, strong wind gusts,” the park agency said in the news release.

There have been at least 10 water-related death that have happened in Colorado since May, according to unofficial numbers tracked through previous Gazette reporting.
