A Longmont man turned himself into Boulder County jail officials on Friday for crimes related to the sexual exploitation of a child under the age of 12.
Michael Anthony Reyes, 33, was wanted on a warrant alleging 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a child relating to the distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Reyes was released on a $20,000 bond on Monday with additional conditions that he cannot contact anyone under the age of 18-years-old and is not allowed access to social media or cloud storage devices, police said.
The investigation into Reyes began after detectives with the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab were notified that a special agent with the FBI had received the files from someone in the Boulder County area conducting an undercover operation, according to the release.
Authorities then identified Reyes as a possible suspect and were able to obtain a search warrant for his home in the 800 block of Bowen Street in Longmont, police said. They served the warrant on Sept. 3, seizing electronic devices that were sent to a lab for processing.
After examining the evidence, authorities determined that it resulted in a probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Reyes on suspicion of distributing child sexual abuse material.
“Since the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab started working these investigations, three things have been made clear. First, there are individuals distributing and using child sexual abuse material in every community; so, we are fortunate to have this outstanding team pursuing these cases in Boulder County,” said District Attorney Michael Doughtery in a news release. “Second, these cases involve actual victims because of what the videos depict.”
Several agencies worked on the investigation, including Boulder County, the FBI and the Longmont Department of Public Safety.
