Denver police say driver rammed motorcycle into oncoming traffic, killing rider

The Denver Police Department arrested a man for allegedly slamming his vehicle into a motorcycle, pushing it into oncoming traffic, killing one of the riders and severely injuring another.

Police arrested 45-year-old Diego Ortega-Camero Sunday on suspicion of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault after an alleged road rage incident in south Denver.

Investigators said it all started as an argument between two people riding the same motorcycle and Ortega-Camero, who was driving a vehicle. The argument escalated when a shot was fired by one of the motorcyclists, according to police.

Police said Ortega-Camero caught up with the motorcycle at the intersection of East Hampden Avenue and South Yosemite Street and evidence indicates he intentionally collided with the motorcycle and its two occupants, pushing them into the path of an oncoming motorist who struck them, police said.

Officers arrived on scene around 7:30 p.m. and found the two men who had been riding the motorcycle. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Ortega-Camero fled the scene on foot and was later arrested, police said.

Final charges will be made by the Denver District Attorney’s Office and the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will identify the man who was killed, following investigations.
